Why We Don’t Own an Airstream (And Probably Never Will…)

Why We Don’t Own an Airstream (And Probably Never Will…)

About a month ago we headed south on the Parkway to destroy some White House subs and attend the Atlantic City RV show.  It was freezing cold outside–so the combo of classic roadfood and indoor motorhome window shopping made for a great day.  We strolled up and down the aisles and checked out some ridiculously sweet Class A’s and Class C’s. Theo really liked this one.  I still can’t figure out why… He also really liked this 40 foot Class A… But he was shocked when I told him the price.  The poor kid... Read More

A Week Without Tuesday (Our Guest Bloggers Warm Up For New Zealand)

A Week Without Tuesday (Our Guest Bloggers Warm Up For New Zealand)

John and Cathy are experienced international RV travelers. They are currently exploring New Zealand in a rented campervan and have agreed to blog about their adventures. Here is the next installment… Our trip began in Los Angeles, or more correctly, Santa Monica, California. We booked two days in LA prior to flying to New Zealand so that we could experience Southern California a little and not have to fly for 20 hours from Philly to Auckland. We had two beautiful days there. We left snow, cold, and winter at home to find sunshine and... Read More

Wrapping up the Winter: What Did (and didn’t) Get Done…

Wrapping up the Winter: What Did (and didn’t) Get Done…

Even though they say we might be getting more snow, I’m closing the door on this winter. Tonight Max argued with me vigorously about when the first day of spring is. He insisted it is tomorrow. For a moment I actually thought about giving in and letting him win. Yes Max, if you say so, tomorrow will be spring. I have been thinking about this past winter and all of things I wanted to do, all of the things we did do, and all of the things we didn’t get around to. Let’s get the bad part out of the way first. I really wanted to... Read More

White House Sub Shop Makes Roadfood’s Top 100 in USA!

To celebrate Roadfood’s recent selection of White House Subs to their top 100 “must-visit stops” the campers decided to go directly to the source for a classic Jersey Shore munchdown.  Last fall we headed to their Taj Mahal location to get our primordial eat on–but this time it was back to the less glittery but more glorious Arctic Avenue original. ‘ The pictures on the walls tell a thousand stories and are dripping with Atlantic City history.  Take a close look at the top of the last picture.  Yes, that is a... Season Opener: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

It’s pretty bad around here, folks. Our boys are so desperate for the road that they are building ‘campgrounds’ out of their Megablocks and Spinaroos. Jeremy took the camper down to the dealership for a bit of a freshening up this weekend, and something about the act of hitching up and pulling out gets Max and Theo all amped up for our first spring trip. Lucky for them (and us!) we are just weeks away from our season opener. We have always headed south in the spring, but never quite far enough to really shake off the chill... Read More

In Spite of the Busy, Something Permanent Everyday

My day started at 5:30 this morning. I was on my way to work by 6:50, getting the kids from school at 4:00, eating dinner at 5:30, and baths and bed by 7:00. In between all of these major checkpoints, there was lunch packing and dish unloading and oatmeal making and face wiping and milk pouring and media negotiating. Today wasn’t anything special. Today was busy. Most days are. I’m a bit routine obsessed. The only way I can get through one of my typical week days is by having a mental checklist, marking it off in my mind, making... Read More
