Where’s Your Winter Wander-land? Breaking out of the Cabin…

Where’s Your Winter Wander-land? Breaking out of the Cabin…

We’ve been in a deep freeze up here in the NorthEast and, if your children are anything like mine, things are starting to get a little loopy in the house. I measure my boys’ pent up energy in karate chops per minute and the number has been rising rapidly. So when I saw the forecast for tomorrow, I got excited. It is so easy to settle into ‘inside mode’ during the winter. You can forget that 50 degrees actually feels quite comfortable if you are bundled up and the sun is shining.   Jeremy and I watch our weekend... Read More

Monster Jam vs. Lively Little Campers (Spoiler Alert: We Lost)

Monster Jam vs. Lively Little Campers (Spoiler Alert: We Lost)

I have a confession. I was one of those 28 year olds who swore I would never get sucked in to all that kid junk. You know the type–the non-parent who swears they will always be far too cool to play Raffi on loop in the car or stand with their head through the cut out hole of a wooden penguin at the zoo, acting all, yeah, haha, I really look like a penguin. I’m pretty sure I assumed (pre-children) that parents brought their kids to places like Storybook Land because they felt they had to. They were doing their due diligence,... Read More

Competitive Birding: The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge

Competitive Birding: The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge

A Day at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Preserve So the government shutdown ended, the National Parks reopened, and we finally got to make our annual trip to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Preserve last weekend. If you think birding sounds boring, then you haven’t done it with preschoolers. After some initial disagreement on the rules of the game–a duck is not a bird…yes it is…no it isn’t, etc– the boys spent the entire eight-mile driving loop diligently trying to spot a bird and then... Storming the White House…No Government Shutdown Here!

Storming the White House…No Government Shutdown Here!

As Stephanie mentioned in her last past, our trip to the Edwyn B. Forsythe Wildlife Preserve was a complete bust.  Largely because we did not know it was a NATIONAL preserve.  Thanks again Congress.  Your approval rating finally hit zero in our station wagon last Saturday. Stephanie also mentioned that after driving up to the barricaded gates we made a sensible parenting decision by deciding to take our three young boys to Atlantic City.  But what she did not mention is that we brought our complaints about the shutdown directly to the White... Oops…I Didn’t Realize it was the Edwin Forsythe NATIONAL Perserve

Oops…I Didn’t Realize it was the Edwin Forsythe NATIONAL Perserve

This is getting a bit ridiculous. I completely overlooked the word national in the name of this refuge. Guess what that means? The place we went to visit since D.C. was shut down? Well, it was also closed on account of the, shall we say, situation in our beloved capital.   Making the best of the situation, we motored off to Atlantic City. We kept the kids away from the roulette tables, but the escalators had them at ‘hello’. More on our AC escapades later… Read More

Autumn in South Jersey: You Don’t Need a RV for This Daytrip

Autumn in South Jersey: You Don’t Need a RV for This Daytrip

(You don’t need a camper for this trip…) A couple of months ago, Jeremy and I decided this fall would be the perfect time to take the boys to Washington D.C. for the first time. We picked Columbus Day weekend and booked the campground. Quite the coincidence that our plans coincided with a long-term government shutdown, and we were forced to cancel this past week. So we are staying local this weekend. We woke up to a beautiful fall sky, and are heading to one of our favorite autumn haunts (haha). Here we are at the Edwin B.... Read More

This is How the Summer Ends….See You Next Year, Cape May

This is How the Summer Ends….See You Next Year, Cape May

Getting the best site at Seashore Campsites…  Walking towards the sunset… Hanging with the Wes Man…  Playing on the beach… *** *** *** *** Playing hide and seek… Shutting down the pool for the season… Searching for Monarch Butterflies at “Butterfly Beach”… And finding them… *** Eating gummy frogs… Sharing ice cream at “the point”… *** Spotting dolphins swimming by… And going for one last ocean swim… Thank you Cape...
