Coffee Table Mojo: KOA and the Art of Kamping

Coffee Table Mojo: KOA and the Art of Kamping

KOA And The Art of Kamping It’s only early December but I miss camping season already.  I love the holidays as much as the next dad–but I love getting out in our RV even more.  Our family has spent over a hundred nights camping during the past four years and most of those nights have been spent at KOA campgrounds.  Stephanie calls me a “KOA Fanboy,” and its true.  I like their friendly cancellation policy and their kid friendly activities and amenities.  But what I have really loved the most about the KOA campgrounds... Storming the White House…No Government Shutdown Here!

Storming the White House…No Government Shutdown Here!

As Stephanie mentioned in her last past, our trip to the Edwyn B. Forsythe Wildlife Preserve was a complete bust.  Largely because we did not know it was a NATIONAL preserve.  Thanks again Congress.  Your approval rating finally hit zero in our station wagon last Saturday. Stephanie also mentioned that after driving up to the barricaded gates we made a sensible parenting decision by deciding to take our three young boys to Atlantic City.  But what she did not mention is that we brought our complaints about the shutdown directly to the White... This is How the Summer Ends….See You Next Year, Cape May

This is How the Summer Ends….See You Next Year, Cape May

Getting the best site at Seashore Campsites…  Walking towards the sunset… Hanging with the Wes Man…  Playing on the beach… *** *** *** *** Playing hide and seek… Shutting down the pool for the season… Searching for Monarch Butterflies at “Butterfly Beach”… And finding them… *** Eating gummy frogs… Sharing ice cream at “the point”… *** Spotting dolphins swimming by… And going for one last ocean swim… Thank you Cape... ONE PLAYGROUND TO RULE THEM ALL! (Allentown, PA)

ONE PLAYGROUND TO RULE THEM ALL! (Allentown, PA)

I have to confess, I was looking for food.  Before we left for our quick weekend trip to the Allentown KOA I went on to the RV.NET forum and asked for family-friendly restaurant recommendations near the campground.  I got a few responses, but more importantly, a friendly member from Cape May “HIGHLY” recommended the Cedar Beach Playground in Allentown.  They said that it was “an absolutely great park” that their grandchildren had enjoyed for hours.  So I put on my Captain Internet costume and used the Google to find... Earning Your Eats the Old-Fashioned Way: The White Cottage Snack Bar

Earning Your Eats the Old-Fashioned Way: The White Cottage Snack Bar

After our adventurous descent down Mount Tom’s Precipice Trail we were hungry.  Very hungry.  Not handmade local croissant or organic frittata hungry.  But cheeseburger hungry.  Milkshake hungry. Lobster roll hungry.  Fried clam strips hungry.  You know what I mean.  And after hiking up and down a beautiful Vermont mountain with two four-year olds and a five-month old we had earned our eats the old-fashioned way. The White Cottage Snack Bar in Woodstock may be America’s most beautiful roadside burger and shake joint.  The signage,... Read More

Eating Our Way Through Brattleboro, Vermont

Eating Our Way Through Brattleboro, Vermont

We are basically eating and drinking our way through Vermont, and that was just not the plan at all. When we started to travel with infants four years ago, we gave up all of the nice restaurants and upscale wineries and fancy cheese shops. Those days will return, no doubt, and I will once again have amazing paella while gazing out at the water in Newport Beach, Rhode Island. But for now, I religiously pack the pantry with all of our staples like oatmeal and tuna fish. Then I meal plan for all of our dinners because the last thing anyone wants... Read More
