On this episode of Campground of the Week, Brett Neilson tells us about his rare visit to a private campground, Zion River Resort, located near Zion National Park. Brett and his wife, Ashley, escaped for a weekend camping date to this beautiful location, and they can’t wait to return with their daughter in the near future.
Zion River Resort has neat and tidy pull thru sites with well-maintained concrete pads. There are also back in sites along the river with gravel ground cover. Brett raved about the cleanliness of the facilities and the abundance of amenities, including:
- a well-stocked camp store
- dog run
- pool and hot tub
- playground
- gameroom
- laundry facilities
- mining sluice
Zion River Resort also hosts a wide variety of activities and theme weekends, including:
- movie nights
- ice cream socials
- wine and cheese gatherings
- teacher appreciation weekend
- Hawaiian luau weekend
The management presence was top-notch and if you like quiet hours to be, ahem, quiet…this is your place! You have to listen to the episode to hear Brett’s insider tips and nobody’s perfect suggestion for improvement.
If you are staying at Zion River Resort, you will want to reserve a good amount of time for exploring Zion National Park. In this episode, Brett describes:
- Mount Carmel Highway
- Zion Canyon Scenic Drive (Check out the shuttle information!)
- Emerald Pools hike
- Riverside Walk
- Narrows
- Angels Landing
We also talk about day tripping to Bryce Canyon National Park, just two hours away by car.
For shopping jaunts, Brett recommends Fort Zion Gift Shop and Market & Gifts in Springdale.
While in Springdale, you will also want to eat lunch at Oscars, which calls itself a Mexican joint but serves amazing burgers. Go figure.
Passing through the area with no RV? No problem! Zion Trailer Rentals has you covered. They will get you all set up at the campground in an RV. All you have to do is show up and light a campfire!
