Indiana Dunes State Park is also a great alternative to camping at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (Dunewood Campground) just up the road. Dunewood Campground only has primitive sites and they are all first come/first serve. At Indiana Dunes State Park, you are just minutes away from the National Lakeshore and you can reserve electric sites–even 50 amp!!!–in advance. Plus the state park is open year round.
Melissa and Matthew rave about the facilities at this campground, noting that the comfort stations are spacious, clean, and recently renovated. They also rave about the paved roads, spacious sites, and ample opportunities to enjoy ranger led programs while camping here. Indiana Dunes State Park regularly hosts theme weekends including vintage camper rallies and birding festivals.
