On this week’s episode of RV Family Travel Atlas, it’s gear guide time, and we are talking about some great new items that will help make your fall camping adventures a little more cozy and a lot more comfortable.
For us, summer travel is all about adventure, while fall travel seems to be more about relaxing at the campground and spending time around the fire. From cooking to decorating to emptying that black tank, we have products for everyone and price points for every budget.

I want EVERYTHING! 🙂
RIGHT???!!!! 🙂
Thank you for the mattress review! I have been trying to convince my husband. When I saw the smile on his face while he was listening I knew I had him!!!
Don’t know what took us so long…when you think about how much you spend on other things, and then cheap out on something you use every night you camp, it a no brainer!!!
How does it feel when sleeping on it? Is it Papa Bear, Mama Bear, or Baby Bear type comfort (just right, not hard, not soft).
I’m going to replace mine in my new trailer as soon as I get it.
For us, it was softer than the mattresses we have gotten in the past, but that is because it has that memory foam quality of molding to your body. We weren’t used to that. So although it feels soft, it has a lot of support. Mattresses are so individual, so make sure you get one you can return if you wish–that’s what I like about this new mail order mattress thing. Although to be honest, I don’t know how we would have gotten it back in the box, lol.
Thank you so much for your detailed reply. Now I have another question. I see there is an 8 inch option and a 10 inch option…it looks like you may have bought the 8 inch…yet the 10 inch is less expensive at this time. Is there a particular reason you bought the 8 inch (If you did)…is it about the sheets fitting properly? Thanks!
We have used the rope lights INSIDE the camper for years. We drape them over the top of the slide and it outlines the slide room but is hidden by the trim. We use them as night lights for the kids, dogs and adults.
That’s a great idea! The boys like a nightlight on, but I am really sensitive to lights at night, so I can’t wait for my next RV with a bedroom DOOR!!!!
Hi, i bought the lantern based on this review and the dimmer knob broke the second time we used it. it would not turn itself off and burned out. Just thought i’d let you know!
So sorry to hear that. Did you return/exchange the item? We have used ours for well over 100 nights of camping and throw them in the RV bin for storage. They have held up quite well for us, and we can only ever speak to our own personal experience. I’ll also add that in our review, we were quite clear that these were incredibly inexpensive lanterns and we had been surprised by their performance.
Totally! Not surprised or annoyed at all and to plan to return if I can get my act together. ? Really just writing because you guys had said you wanted to hear what we thought of the stuff you recommend.
Just wanted to be clear for anyone reading comments in the show notes, without listening to the review on the podcast! We strive to recommend quality products, and this is one of the few times we have included a cheaply made product…but we did it because people were continually asking us on social media where we got the lanterns. Definitely exchange it, and hopefully you will wind up with a better one that lasts like ours have!!!
It could be a fluke. I know I’ve had two of different items and one would break and the other was sturdy.
