On this week’s episode of RV Family Travel Atlas, we are reporting from the field with our top tips for exploring our nation’s beautiful national park sites. We have been to a national seashore, a national park, and a national historic site in the last few weeks and noticed that some folks are showing up without a plan and getting a bit lost in the crowds.
Just because it’s the 100th anniversary of the National Park System doesn’t mean you are destined to fight for parking and wait in line for that perfect family selfie. If you plan ahead and follow a few simple rules, you can soak in the majestic beauty of our wild spaces without soaking up a lot of stress also. So we are offering our top 6 tips for exploring even the most popular (and crowded) NPS sites this summer.
Plus we have an interview with Ranger Donna Lee Watson, who we met while staying at the newest National Park campground, Schoodic Woods, in Acadia National Park. If you haven’t had a chance yet, make sure you check out our latest Campground of the Week Episode #36 for all the details about this amazing place that really needs to be at the tip top of your campground bucket list.
And in our last segment, we review our favorite his and her hiking items from our first round of gear testing for Cabela’s. Jeremy stepped up his rain gear by trying out the Cabela’s Men’s Rainy River Parka with Gore-Tex. We had quite a few opportunities to don our rain jackets while hiking on the Schoodic Peninsula, and Jeremy was thrilled with how dry and cool he stayed in this parka.
Stephanie reviews her new favorite wardrobe item, Cabela’s Women’s Triune Skort. She talked about her struggle to find comfortable hiking shorts that offer movement and breathability, especially when carrying a kid in a backpack. This skirt performed perfectly and its now a go to wardrobe item.
We are joining in on the fun, and helping celebrate one of our nation’s great achievements: the National Park System. We have been busy finding our park…have you? If you need a little inspiration, take a listen to episode #97, Find Your Park: #NPS100.
